Gorgeous news this week ahead of Australia Day on 26th January!

Barry Humphries has been named Australian of the Year in the UK for 2012. Ahead of the gala award dinner in London, Barry apparently had some inside information that the award would come his way, explaining "I had a friend very high up in the world of media who has been tapping the phones in Australia House for many years."

The internet and twittersphere are awash with news and reviews of a certain glittering gigastar presence in the pantomime at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London this year. How gorgeous!

Non-entities around the city are flocking to this fabulous new show to brighten up their dull grey lives and take home some of that fabulous festive Dame Edna spirit.

Dame Edna is something of a Christmas miracle, isn't she? We've known for years that her shows can heal the sick with the gift of vitamin L for laughter. Theatre ushers often find wheelchairs, canes, and zimmer frames abandoned, as the afflicted walk away in perfect health after an evening in the presence of the world's greatest international phenomenon, royal confidante, swami, and of course, housewife/megastar.

You've been wondering how to add a bit of glitter and glamour to your dull lives this Chrissie, haven't you? What better way than to add some megastar magic to the holiday season in the form of the gorgeous Dame Edna Everage in pantomime at the New Wimbledon Theatre ? How fabulously festive, possums!!!

Here's a little behind the scenes look at rehearsals as we quickly approach opening night. Dame Edna's manager Barry Humphries is mysteriously at rehearsals, and as they don't tend to get along very well, it seems that Edna has chosen to excuse herself during the time he's there. Very wise too, as everyone knows he's extremely jealous of Edna's success, and is only after her squillions!!!

She'll be appearing in pantomime this Christmas with Sam Attwater and Anna Williamson in Dick Whittington (at the New Wimbledon Theatre), and was recently seen at the London Eye with her co-stars, flying high above the adoring crowds:

Hello darlings!

Dame Edna recently revealed via Twitter that she was about to fly to Rome to star in Kath and Kim's new movie. How exciting, possums! Can't wait to see it!!!

I wonder if she'll stop in at the Vatican during her time in the Italian capital? The Pope ("Little Benny" as she likes to call him) is constantly on the phone begging Dame Edna for spiritual advice, so perhaps she'll squeeze him into her busy filming schedule.

I suspect she might also try to convince him to stop wearing those frocks....she doesn't like it when men dress up in women's clothing! How yucky!

Dame Edna & Will Young on The Rob Brydon Show!

Darlings!

At the start of his most recent show, Rob Brydon described Dame Edna as "The greatest woman who ever lived!". No truer words have ever been spoken, and she certainly added some megastar magic to Rob's show on Friday evening!

Offering some caring words of advice to little Rob, she purred "You're starting your career off the way I would recommend...quietly, very quietly. I think people will come around to you!" She meant it in a nice way, possums!

They later discussed the fashions of Lady Gaga, and she told Rob that Lady Gaga makes too much of an effort....then turning to the audience added "...whereas women here in the studio have made no effort whatever!" A fashion icon speaks!

Further into the show, upon meeting singer Will Young, she declared "I've never heard of you." Perhaps Kenny is a fan, though? And ultimately, Edna and Will made beautiful music together by singing a classic duet. His career will be one huge disappointment after such a show-business peak like that!!!

It has just been announced that Dame Edna will be making her pantomime debut later this year, playing the "Saviour of London" in "Dick Whittington" at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London. How gorgeous!

Dame Edna had this to say about the news:

"I am delighted to be making my pantomime debut and starring as the Saviour of London in Dick Whittington. Being a stranger to pantomime I am looking forward to all the fun and frolics and meeting all of you lovely little possums of London, but most of all, the thought of guiding Dick Whittington to become Lord Mayor of London thrills me. I did the exact same thing for Boris Johnson not long ago."

The BBC's Today programme, with guest editor Colin Firth at the helm, did just that on Tuesday. And who better to invite to look over the past 12 months than a woman who is friend, confidant, and advisor to the world's most powerful and influential people - Dame Edna Everage?

Are you feeling festive? What are you planning for the Chrissie season?

One thing you won't want to miss will be the guest editors on BBC Radio Four's "Today" programme between Chrissie and New Year! "Why is that?", I hear you cry.

The reason is, of course, that Dame Edna will be on the air to fill our hearts with megastar magic! Gorgeous little Colin Firth is going to be the guest editor on 28th December, and one of the things he is planning is to reunite Today presenter John Humphrys with the world's favourite Australian icon, Dame Edna Everage.

You'll recall that the last time John spoke to Dame Edna on the air, they were discussing the possibility of Edna working with John as a co-presenter. She pointed out, however, that John might have some difficulty with this as he obviously finds her too stimulating, and his concentration might suffer as a result! Well, you can understand...

The BBC have just reported on the discovery of a nude painting of the gorgeous Sean Connery, created in 1951 when he was life model for Edinburgh art students. This was of course long before the days of 007 and his huge success as an esteemed actor, and comes as quite a surprise to many of his fans!

But Dame Edna's army of loyal fans around the globe have known about his modelling days for decades! The gorgeous little Sean was, of course, a guest on her pivotal and ground-breaking talk show "The Dame Edna Experience", and Edna probed deeply during her interview with the world's favourite super-spy, getting to the naked truth in no time!!! She really did have her finger on the pulse...

With the UK launch of "Handling Edna", Dame Edna and Barry Humphries have both been at the forefront of all aspects of the UK media these past few weeks, and more than a few revelations have been bubbling to the surface!

Perhaps most shocking is the fact that Edna's son Kenny is quite probably Frank Sinatra's lovechild! Goodness me, Possums! Could it be? Check out this clip from the BBC's "The One Show":

As her manager, Barry Humphries has been promoting the book everywhere, trying desperately to boost sales before Dame Edna's legal suit forces the book to be taken from stores and pulped. In fact, Barry says that fans should buy numerous copies, because if this happens, the book will be a collectors' items! Sounds like good advice!!!

Dame Edna has also recently conducted a Twinterview for Waterstones, during which we learned that she's in talks to make a film called "Slumdog Megastar", set in London's East End. It seems that Barry's tell-all book can't hold back the world's most popular and sought after woman. She's an international phenomenon that just can't be stopped!

It's been a busy ole time in the whirling world of our favourite glittering gigastar!

Most recently, she's been the featured guest on BBC One's "The One Show" , dismissing and downplaying Barry Humphries' new book "Handling Edna", which apparently makes a few claims that Edna is not too pleased about.

During her interview, she also let slip that she's having dinner with the Pope during his visit to the UK. Of course we're not surprised that Dame Edna and the Pope are good friends...she's the confidante and advisor to the world's most powerful leaders. In fact, we've heard that little Benny (that's what she likes to call him!) pesters her day and night for spiritual advice.

She also tries to offer him some fashion tips, because she's doesn't like the idea of a man wearing a frock. In fact, she thinks it's a little bit yucky!

And for all this assistance over the years, we're told that a Sainthood is in the pipeline for Dame Edna! Isn't that gorgeous?!

Hello, Darlings!

We wanted you to see a gorgeous new Broadway illustration by artist Ken Fallin. To celebrate the Tony Awards and the most memorable performances of the year, Mr Fallin has created a fabulous work featuring some of the glittering stars of the Broadway stage in 2009-2010, including of course, our dazzling Dame Edna Everage.

Dame Edna was, as you know, back on the Broadway stage this year in her fabulous show "All About Me" with Michael Feinstein.

We feel sure that the good people at the Tonys begged Dame Edna to accept an award this year. She no doubt declined, and probably said "Give it to Catherine Zeta-Jones, she needs the publicity. And after all, just recently in the Queen's Birthday Honours list, she was only given a little CBE, the darling little mite! My friend at the palace (I can't say exactly who...I'll just say Lillibet...) awarded me something much, much more important many years ago. Wouldn't it be nice for Catherine to get the Tony? Call me old-fashioned, but it would!"

Her 'manager' Barry Humphries explains to Playbill.com:

I'm giving you an absolute exclusive: Edna intends to run for office in the United States of America. It will be the first time you've ever had, well, an Australian president... There is a way. I'm talking to lawyers, international lawyers as it is.

There's no doubt that in these trying times, we all need her caring and sharing in the upper echelons of power, and wouldn't the Oval Office look gorgeous with vases of gladioli all around? Call me old-fashioned, Possums, but I think it would!

Gorgeous news today from New York City and the Great White Way!

Dame Edna's fabulous new Broadway show "All About Me" is currently in previews, and all manner of glittering gigastar publicity is coming our way.

First of all, darlings, you must dash out (quicksticks!!!) and buy the April edition of Vanity Fair, because Dame Edna, Michael Feinstein and Barry Humphries are featured in a marvelous photograph, with comment by David Hyde Pierce. Check it out here!

Next, we've discovered a brand new website promoting the show, and the latest addition to the megastar material it features is a collection of new photographs of Edna in action.

It goes without saying that Dame Edna will have perfected her numbers weeks ago, and the previews are probably being used so that she can help little Michael get his right. After all, as she very modestly noted, Americans have taken Dame Edna to their heart, thrown Tony awards at her, but Michael has only had....what's that thing that's much, much less than a Tony?....oh, yes, an Emmy....he's had that....

Gladioli greetings, you little darlings!

The excitement grows this week, with more news about the upcoming Dame Edna / Michael Feinstein Broadway show "All About Me"!

First, the show announced a publicity contest to find an honorary understudy for Dame Edna. Rather confusingly, it appeared that the understudy wannabes were mostly men! Now call me old-fashioned, possums, but I find the idea of men dressing up as women a little bit yucky...a little bit uncalled for. I'm sorry, but I do!

Despite this, guest media judges and even Edna's manager, Barry Humphries, gathered in New York to score the contestants on their make-up, costume, accent, and general Dame-like demeanor. Check out the results and video on the NY1 newschannel website.

(A gorgeous reader alerted us to the fun in advance (thanks, Diana!), and what a shame this glittering gathering didn't take place in London, darlings! As non-entities across the UK can attest, our very own Simon would have fit in brilliantly with this merry megastar line-up!)

Later in the week, it was revealed on Playbill.com that two different Playbill covers would be created for the show (one featuring Edna and the other with Michael), and both will be available to the audience each night.

We know that everyone will be clamouring for the cover with an image of the world's most famous and influential woman! Such a shame - one suspects that Michael's programs might be a little neglected. But I mean that nicely, possums! I really do!

The news this week is so exciting!

On February 1st, Dame Edna and Michael Feinstein launched their new show "All About Me" to the press and the world.

Following the original "dispute" about their rival shows and titles, they've now come together to create a show that will undoubtedly mark a watershed in showbiz history, and arguably, be the highlight of most people's lives.

The evening will be a glittering mix of music and mirth (and fabulous frocks!), fuelled by a bit of good-willed competitive spirit. Playbill.com reports that Dame Edna revealed:

'....there have been a few little rough patches in their double-harnessed Journey to Broadway. “Catfight, I think, is trivializing it,” opted the dame, who suggested that lionfight would be closer to the mark.'

But she generously added that she :

'...saw no reason why she wouldn’t make beautiful music with Feinstein. “He is an exponent of The Great American Songbook, and I am the exponent of The Great Australian Songbook,” she reasoned. “The Great Australian Songbook is wonderful. It differs from The Great American Songbook in one respect: It’s thinner. In fact, it’s almost a pamphlet. There are lovely, lovely songs in it — ‘Waltzing Matilda,’ ‘The Dingo Ate My Baby,’ beautiful songs.” '

Dame Edna also observes that Michael is :

'...a shy person. But he won't have to stand back....too far....he can just stand in the shadows. That will be enough.'

You've been wondering where I've been, haven't you? I'm so sorry that it's been some time since the last entry, but The Untamed Edna Experience office is now geared up again to bring you all of the gorgeous glittering gigastar news for 2010.

And what a year it promises to be, Possums! In the coming months, your dull little non-entity lives will be lit up with news of the UK launch of Barry Humphries' new book "Handling Edna", as well as Dame Edna's fabulous new Broadway Show with Michael Feinstein called "All About Me", due to open this spring. The megastar magic continues!!!

We all know that the glitter of a gigastar is sure to brighten the Chrissie season!

So it seems that Dame Edna's possums in Australia will be flocking to the Sydney Opera House tonight for some seasonal megastar magic! They're in for a rare holiday treat - a gorgeous little show she's doing with Sir Les Patterson and Barry Humprhies, along with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Richard Tognetti.

You're excited because Chrissie is coming, aren't you? And what better way to celebrate the countdown to the big day than with an advent calendar?

But, of course, you're not looking for just any old advent calendar! You're looking for one with a bit of megastar magic to it. And who could blame you?

Well, the good news is that our friends at BBC Radio 4 have given everyone a gorgeous gift - an online advent calendar, with some of their favourite clips from the Today show. How wonderful!

And it's no surprise to anyone that one of the clips they've chosen is John Humphrys' September interview with Dame Edna. In it, Dame Edna discussed the possibility of becoming a Today programme presenter, and worried that Mr Humphrys might find her a little too stimulating to work beside...(well, she is a woman with all her drives and her juices flowing!).

It's been a spooky ol' time in the world of Broadway publicity this week...

Some time ago, we revealed that Dame Edna would be returning to the Big Apple in the spring of 2010 with a gorgeous new show called "It's All About Me".

But very recently, showbiz media sources began reporting that celebrated crooner Michael Feinstein would also be opening a show at the same time titled "All About Me", and a fabulous feud between our glittering gigastar and the polished pianist began!

Obviously, the problems that could be caused by such similar titles were evident to all, and the publicists geared into overdrive. Duelling dispatches and snappy statements started swirling about, and we've got the best bits for you here:

Michael Feinstein - 5th November

“While I was very surprised to learn of the similarity of titles, I’ve always been a fan of Dame Edna, and I wish her all the best.”

Dame Edna - 9th November"
" 'It’s All About Me' is my title. While I was saddened to hear that Mr. Feinstein did not heed my sage advice to change the title of his show, I’m overjoyed to hear that he at least took my suggestion to open his show after mine. I’m sure Mrs. Feinstein is very proud of her son.”

“Titles are not copyrightable. I wish Ms. Edna well. I’ve heard of her.”

Dame Edna - 10th November
"....wishes to respond to Michael Feinstein’s comment to the press from earlier today: 'Someone purchased a CD of Mr. Feinstein’s at a flea market in Australia and re-gifted it to me recently. I’m impressed at how often he sings on key.' ”

But wait, Possums! Was it all a phoney feud after all? The New York Times reported yesterday that Dame Edna and Feinstein would, in fact, be joining forces in a show called "All About Me", and the stars had this to say:

“I have always been a huge fan of the Dame, and despite our previous friction, now that my mother has forgiven her, I couldn’t be more excited to be joining her on Broadway.”

“Michael Feinstein is a performer of the highest caliber, I believe, and I couldn’t be more than excited to be sharing a Broadway stage with him, in moderation.”

Perhaps the clue was in the original announcements all along? When both shows were first unveiled, the releases stated that each show would be in a "...Shubert Theatre to be announced...". Do I hear a penny dropping?

In any event, everyone involved has had a lot of fun with this, and it certainly gears up the anticipation for the show. No doubt it will be showbiz history in the making! And who knows, perhaps this will be the beginning of a string of gorgeous new collaborations for Dame Edna. Our wisteria wonder might next join forces with Oprah Winfrey for a new production of "The Color Purple"...

The bonza buzz about Barry's book continues, Possums!

Following the launch of "Handling Edna" earlier this month, Barry has been a busy man promoting the book down under. As part of the promotional tour, he was recently a guest on several ABC radio programmes, and we thought you might enjoy hearing the interviews!

There were many revealing moments, including the news that Dame Edna had a dalliance or two with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Leonard Cohen some years ago. Goodness me! That's quite a departure from the life of a Moonee Ponds housewife! And yet, she's truly a woman of remarkable talents and charisma, so surely nobody can be surprised that some of the world's most famous men have found her wisteria locks alluring. Dame Edna - New BBC Job?

Hello Possums!

Celebrated BBC news journalist and presenter John Humphrys interviewed Dame Edna this morning on the Today programme. It seems, amidst all the talk of the BBC search for a 'more mature female news presenter', that Dame Edna might be considered a leading candidate for the job!

Of course viewers and listeners would flock to the BBC's programmes if Edna became the presenter. She would look gorgeous, and would give the news a fresh sensitivity in a caring and sharing way.

On the other hand, as confidant to all of the world's great leaders, she might find her impartiality called into question.

After all, Michelle Obama is constantly calling her to ask for wardrobe and decorating advice, and little Oby (as only Edna is allowed to call him!) is forever on the phone to discuss the Middle East. Gordon Brown is always begging her to lend the UK a few squillion pounds to help him out of this terrible financial mess, and the Pope often asks for spiritual advice (she humours him, but in truth doesn't like the idea of a man dressing up in a frock all the time!!!).

So it would be a miracle if she had the time to read the news for the BBC, much less be impartial. She also worries that John Humphrys might find her too stimulating to sit next to.

And yet, the rumours persist, and the public cries out for some glamour on the news screens.

Dame Edna is returning to Broadway...
...with a gorgeous new show called "It's All About Me!". She's already a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award winner, and clearly, her gorgeous Possums in NYC are clamouring for more. Lucky little mites! The show will be a strictly limited run, and will be directed by another Tony Award winner, Jerry Zaks. Dame Edna continues her Poms tour in the UK...
...following her big opening (don't twist my words!) in London with "The Last Night of the Poms". The critics all adored Edna (and even the disgustingly brilliant Sir Les Patterson), and all agreed they wanted more Edna and less music. Who wouldn't?

The Evening Standard declared Patterson a "magnificent monster.....on filthily fine form, insulting the stony-faced Sheilas in the front row and boorishly berating latecomers."

UK comedy guide Chortle called it a "phenomenal production" and Dame Edna "on glitteringly bitchy form, with banter as slick, and as gloriously condescending, as (she) ever was". Editor's note: she means it nicely!

The Guardian writes that "...Les and Edna – back on the UK stage for the first time in 10 years – are great. Edna arrives boasting that she has just adopted a 'chocolate-coloured' baby from 'the same village where Madonna shops for her loved ones'." She's always thinking of others!

In the programme, Edna confides that composer/conductor Carl Davis "has not aged since I first met him. He looked like a very old man then and, bless him, has hardly changed since. It would be false modesty to say that he composed all the music, some of the best bits I hummed to him in his sleep under circumstances I would prefer not to share with the reader". Well, she's a woman at the height of her powers, with all her drives and juices, isn't she?!?

The excitement is building, isn't it, Possums?!!

Tomorrow night, the world's greatest Dame will be on stage at The Royal Albert Hall for The Last Night of the Poms!!! The entertainment world is a-flutter with anticipation, and non-entities all over the country have been counting down the hours and minutes until their favourite housewife, healer, swami, and gigastar will be on stage again to brighten their dull, meaningless lives!

In fact, when interviewed by the BBC's Mark Lawson for Front Row (listen again here!), Dame Edna insisted she could never leave the public eye because of the great need of her public! Mark suggested that she might retire again and again like Barbra Streisand or Frank Sinatra, but Edna replied:

"I won't retire, because the public want me! There is a big need for me! There's been a poll, and apparently I'm not just a star...I'm not just a lovely person...I'm not just the most famous Australian on the planet...I'm a Vitamin. I'm Vitamin E. When I'm not around, people suffer from EDS... Edna Deprivation Syndrome. And I'm setting that right..."

We've even heard a rumour that Gordon Brown has sent a note of thanks to Dame Edna, for helping the country in a way that he just can't. Bless him.

As the excitement grows prior to Dame Edna's much anticipated return to the British stage, her fans around the country are desperate to hear more from their favourite Gigastar. I have never experienced age discrimination, though my mother has. She is very, very old, a terrible handful, and I discriminate against her every time I see her.

This is the first time for 28 years that you and Sir Les Patterson have shared a stage. Did you fall out?
I have never fallen "in" with Les Patterson. He is coarse and I am refined. When you come to this wonderful show, you will notice that we are separated by an intermission so that I never have to meet him backstage. But I must admit, he tells the story of Peter and the Shark rather charmingly - if he is sober. It's a famous Australian fairytale. Peter and the Wolf copied it.

What is the main lesson life has so far taught you?
That laughter is the greatest healer of all.

Little Wossy's Friday night show was lifted to a higher level with Dame Edna's presence, and perhaps he'll now behave a little better after his mother Maureen begged Edna to keep her eye on Jonathan with some life coaching?!?

In my last post, I wrote that all the top shows are clamouring for Dame Edna to appear these days...

Now my spies tell me that she's bringing a glimpse of the gigastar glamour back to the BBC and little Wossy on "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross". Isn't that gorgeous?!?

Our gorgeous gigastar has been the talk of the town in LA for some time now, so it comes as no surprise that little Jay Leno asked Dame Edna to be on The Tonight Show during his last week on the air. In fact, Edna has been saving Jay's shows for some time now, making regular appearances and sharing her hope, wisdom, and experience, and occasionally doing a little healing....

The top shows all clamour for Dame Edna of course. She was a special guest of honour on Parky's final show, and she was most recently caring and sharing with Craig Fersuson too!

Our favourite Australian Gigastar has been busy brightening the lives of those lucky little mites in the City of Angels, Los Angeles recently. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger no doubt begged her to come to his gorgeous state to spread her own sunshine and offer some economic advice... and as she says herself, her latest show "My First Last Tour" is something of a stimulus package in itself!

Not only has she been caring and sharing and empowering audiences at the fabulous Ahmanson Theatre, she also added the Glam factor to the Hollywood Bowl's opening night on June 19th, introducing Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Josh Groban!

In fact, acclaimed fashion designer Nick Verreos said "One of the highlights of the entire night was when Dame Edna came out on stage in a red sequined gown and almost brought the house down with her hysterical sassy humor." And Variety noted that "it was Dame Edna who brought the house down.'Kiri Te Kanawa,' she said, was Maori for 'gorgeous woman in sparkling dress.' "

Did you catch our gorgeous Australian gigastar on the Craig Ferguson show last night? It was gripping television viewing (of course!), and Dame Edna was wearing the most fabulous new frock....("Paris Hilton wears other people's clothes - I wear myself!").

She chatted, among other things, about the possibility of becoming Queen and America's First Lady, and of her husband's prostate transplant surgery. What other talk show guest can provide that kind of scintillating discussion in one night?

Craig introduced Edna as a "legendary performer who is frankly too good for this show!". Dame Edna couldn't have said it better herself (well, actually, she probably has said it on a number of occasions herself...).

Dame Edna is really making a splash these days with US late night talk show hosts. Last week she graced the gorgeous Jay Leno with an appearance during his last week of shows (lucky little mite!!!), and tonight, Edna will be adding a delicious dash of gladioli glamour to The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson!

She's a busy ole Gigastar these days, as she also opens tonight at LA's Ahmanson Theatre with her latest theatrical experience "My First Last Tour". No doubt she'll be jumping into her Edna-Air helicopter after the show to swoop over to little Craig's studio. It's a wonder she fits it all in between the desperate calls from Michelle Obama at the White House for fashion advice (well, she managed to get Barbara Bush out of polyester, just think what she can do for Michelle....).

This week we bring you news of Dame Edna's longtime 'manager' Barry Humphries, and a very exciting guest spot on the wireless! Barry is the celebrity guest on the most recent episode of BBC Radio 4's "Desert Island Discs".

Not to be outdone by Dame Edna (who, by the way, has been invited not once, but twice, to care and share with the Desert Island Discs audience!), Barry is a fantastic castaway, and shares some brilliant stories about his youth, and rise to fame around the world.

Ever with his finger on the pulse and a sly reference to Susan Boyle (of "Britain's Got Talent" fame), Barry says of Dame Edna...

" ....(she is a) shy, rather shrill, & dowdy woman...but we all know, don't we, that frumps can sometimes triumph!"

And of his epitaph, he seemingly channels Edna when he tells his host...

"I really would like an opportunity to write it myself. It would be pretty well a catalogue of excessive compliments..."

It's Mother's Day today in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. And so what better way to celebrate than by spending the day with the world's most famous mother and gigastar, Dame Edna Everage?!!

Everyone aspires to live as fabulously as Dame Edna does (she is, after all, the ultimate Housewife/Megastar!), and Edna has always taken an interest in her Possums and their homes.

In her ground-breaking theatrical appearances, she often enquires if her audience members live in nice homes ("...well, Possum, you can afford it...you've saved on clothes..."), if their homes are attached to other people's homes (in Mooney Ponds everyone has their own home), and if they have a shag on the stairs (I mean carpet, of course! Don't twist my words!).

She even explored the nooks and crannies of her audience members' homes in her fabulous TV show "Dame Edna's Neighbourhood Watch". Lucky little darlings!

And this summer, Dame Edna will be lending a touch of glittering gladioli glamour to the home of the Sitwell family - Renishaw Hall in Derbyshire!

The gorgeous possums at Renishaw have added a Dame Edna exhibit to their stately home this summer. Visitors will be able to enjoy a showcase of Edna's costumes, accessories, and photographs. How exciting!

After wandering around the home and grounds of Renishaw, groups of bewildered senior citizens will be so grateful to discover the exhibit featuring their favourite international phenomenon and swami.

After all, if you've got a choice between a gilded portrait of a crusty old ancestor, or an Australian Gigastar, you're going to choose the Gigastar every time!!!

Dame Edna is a vision, it can't be denied. And although she is, perhaps, not a traditional beauty, she is looking unbelievably gorgeous these days.

The worlds of fashion and glamour seem to agree. She recently inspired a fabulous MAC (Megastar Approved Cosmetics) make-up collection, and non-entities and stars alike clamour for her beauty tips!

She will admit to a touch of plastic surgery (her double chin is a graft from Elizabeth Taylor's left-over love handles....), but in the main, it is her inner gorgeousness that shines through to make her an icon of our age.

And so her image has been honoured time and time again - on stamps, magazine covers, statues, and even waxworks. It's only a matter of time before the Australian currency is emblazoned with her fabulous face.

But who would have guessed that she would be immortalised in a gallery, next to Michelangelo's statue of David?

Well, it's happened, Possums!

Yes, that's right! Panny's Amazing World of Chocolate, on Phillip Island, Australia, have created a wall mural of Dame Edna, entirely from chocolate.

Quicksticks, Possums! If you want to see this extraordinary work of culinary art, you'll have to be fast. Our source at Panny's tells us that they've had to post security guards around the exhibit, because Edna's disappointing daughter Valmai keeps showing up and eating pieces of the mural's chocolates.

And since her break-up with that rather rugged Czech tennis player Fern Bratislava, Valmai's been eating like never before. They'll be lucky if there's even a rhinestone left by Friday...

If you're wondering what you might do over the fast-approaching Easter long weekend, why not visit the gorgeous Victoria and Albert Museum in London?

They've recently opened some new "Theatre and Performance" Galleries, and it's no surprise that the world's most celebrated Housewife/Megastar features in the exhibit!!!

Dame Edna is, of course, the theatre world's foremost style icon (little Helen Mirren and Judi Dench are always calling to borrow a frock or diamond bracelet!).

And so it's only right that Edna's Baked Beans dress from the "Dame Edna's Work Experience" television show, and her 1976 Sydney Opera House hat for Ascot, are displayed at the V&A amongst the best of the UK's theatrical gems.

As Dame Edna continues to tour America with her "vibrantly stimulating theatrical infrastructure" in the form of "Dame Edna - My First Last Tour", we have news that the gorgeous little non-entities of Florida have been invited to enter a Dame Edna Lookalike contest to win tickets to the show.

Dame Edna is, of course, an international style guru and fashion icon (most recently celebrated with her own MAC collection!), and desperados the world over are always attempting to recreate the gigastar glamour, with mostly inadequate results. After all, very few have her eye for refined understatement, do they?

No doubt her adoring fans will enter this contest in their squillions!

But - goodness me! - let's hope that there won't be any men entering. I think that the idea of a man getting dressed up in women's clothing is a little uncalled-for.

Just in time for the weekend, we bring you a review of Dame Edna's gorgeous show "My First Last Tour", which she is now performing to the grateful non-entities of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Edna is back on tour in the USA for the next four months, prior to her return to the UK in her dazzling show "The Last Night of the Poms". She's a busy 'ol Housewife / Megastar!

In light of the world's tragic state of affairs, we've no doubt that they'll all be begging for day passes from their Florida "Sunset Retirement Facilities", desperate for a glimpse of the gladioli glamour. They will, of course, be heavily medicated and confused, but will certainly enjoy the colour and the movement - the lucky little mites!

Here at The Untamed Edna Experience, we adored this rare glimpse into the genius of Barry Humphries, and we hope that someday this new broadcast might some day be available on DVD!!! Rejoice, Possums! Rejoice!

The joyous news of a new Dame Edna UK tour has just been announced!

This wondrous revelation has exploded onto the web and across news outlets everywhere, and tickets are already going fast - of course!

For so long now, no-hopers and non-entities around the country have been desperate to witness the glory of a Dame Edna stage show.

(In fact, the term "show" is hopelessly inadequate. It would be far more accurate to refer to them as cultural histories-in-the-making and, some might even say, sessions of indescribable healing power!).

And now we can all go and witness the glittering greatness that is an International Gigastar. The very idea is almost too exciting for words!

Dame Edna will be joined by Sir Les Patterson in "The Last Night of the Poms", the first UK tour in 28 years! And joining these two luminaries will be Carl Davis CBE, providing a musical extravaganza that will include complete orchestras and choirs. How gorgeous!

This ground-breaking show was first performed in 1981 at the Royal Albert Hall, and Carl Davis tells us:

“This unique collaboration between myself and Barry Humphries was written as a parody on the Proms. Barry and I have waited 28 years to do this concert again, Dame Edna and Sir Les never disappoint.”

Dame Edna is, no doubt, disappointed to be saddled with Sir Les once again, but perhaps her long-term manager Barry Humphries is to blame. Edna doesn't approve of Sir Les, who is well know as Australia's "cultural" attache, and Chairman of the Australian Cheese Board. She feels, quite frankly, that he is just plain yucky, and has had to put up with him for decades now. Poor woman!

Well the world-wide love affair with gigastar Dame Edna Everage continues!

Her cutting-edge stage show "My First Last Tour" is still touring North America to a rapturous response, healing and uplifting little non-entities around the continent with her zesty zingers and megastar mirth.

And we all know her fun and fabulous MAC cosmetics line has recently been launched globally. In fact, she's just about to make an appearance in Australia to launch it there, adding some much needed glamour to their dull down-under lives. Lucky little things!

But we also have a gorgeous new television ad to enjoy too! It's just what we need to get us through the January blues, isn't it, Possums?

Insurance company AVIVA (who used to be Norwich Union) are using the profiles of a host of stunning stars who have also changed their names in earlier days - Ringo Starr, Bruce Willis, Alice Cooper, Elle Macpherson, and our very own Dame Edna, feature in the ad.

Of course, we all know that Dame Edna didn't change her name herself.... She had the title of "Dame" thrust upon her by her good friend Lillibet, who insisted that she should be known as Dame Edna because of all the good she has done for mankind (after all, even the Dalai Lama said he felt a better person after meeting her...).

Gigastar Greetings for a Gorgeous New Year!

Despite all the holiday happenings, you've been missing us, haven't you, Possums?

It's been a busy ole' time here at The Untamed Edna Experience! In addition to entertaining adorable little non-entities throughout the Chrissie season, we've been moving (well, all the Kenny Everage originals needed a bigger closet...). But now we're all settled in at Edna Central, and ready to roll for a glittering gigastar 2009!

And what a year it's turning out to be already, darlings! We can hardly keep up with all the Dame Edna news in the world. She's truly in greater demand than ever, and obviously at the height of her powers, with all her juices flowing!!!

So watch out in the coming days and weeks as we highlight all of the Megastar-Mania!

The first thing we have to mention, of course, is the recently launched MAC Cosmetics Dame Edna line of wisteria-inspired make-up essentials! The web has been awash with blog entries from eternally grateful Possums around the world who can, at last, enjoy a little of the gladioli glamour for themselves.

The unveiling of this eagerly anticipated collection has been aided by an avalanche of exciting publicity!

MAC have a Facebook Page loaded with fabulous pics and interview snippits. Dame Edna tells us about her G-Spot exercises:

“I do my G-spot exercise every morning. I wake–up, I look in the mirror and I say those G-words: ‘Edna, I say, ‘You are gorgeous, you’re gorgeous, you’re GORGEOUS.’ And I go through the day absolutely gorgeous.”

The excitement is mounting as we quickly approach the launch of the new Dame Edna line of make-up from those gorgeous glamour gurus at MAC! As we reported earlier, the lucky little mites of North America will be able to buy items from this trend-setting collection on 26th December, while UK shoppers will get their chance in the New Year.

Bloggers and make-up aficionados the world over are abuzz with the news! Here are some highlights from the blog of a web correspondent who hails Dame Edna as the Queen of Beauty:

While Edna is fond of all of the products, her favorite is KangaRouge, a blue-red lipstick. “A part of the kanga is this same color — it’s hopping over you and you look up and there it is,” she opined. “MAC has captured it. I only hope I don’t I meet an excitable male kanga.”

It is with a joyous heart that I announce a new video from our fabulous Dame Edna impersonator Simon Whitehouse on YouTube!

He's been a busy ole gigastar impersonator this summer, caring and sharing at weddings up and down the country, and bringing joy to crowds of non-entities everywhere. Call me old-fashioned, but their dull little lives will likely never be the same again!

So we thought it would be rather gorgeous to post a video of some of the highlights on YouTube. We aim to add more of these videos in the months to come, so stay tuned!

A Dame Edna Coincidence!

Hello darlings!

We've discovered a spoooooky 'ole coincidence in the world of TV talk shows, Possums!

We all know, of course, that Dame Edna's seminal and ground-breaking TV series, "The Dame Edna Experience" was a life changing phenomenon, not only for her guests, but for a host of fans around the world.

No-one can match the caring and sharing of a Gigastar, but many little non-entities seem to be on television trying these days, including a certain BBC comedian who, it seems, can't even pronounce his own name. Call me old-fashioned, Possums, but he can't.

Of course I'm talking about Jonathan Ross. And here is where our little coincidence begins....

On Friday night, Jonathan's guests included Grace Jones and Tony Curtis.

But like most things, we discover, that of course, Dame Edna did it first! That's right, in her second series in 1989, Dame Edna had both Grace Jones and Tony Curtis on the same episode as well! Isn't that spooky?

I know that you're rejoicing at this very moment, aren't you Possums?

You've been looking into the mirror lately, thinking "I wish I could look more like my favourite international Gigastar and fashion icon, Dame Edna Everage!", haven't you? But sadly, at the moment, you see instead a rather plain, uninteresting non-entity staring back at you in that reflection, rather like a New Zealand bridesmaid. How yucky! (I mean that nicely!)

Rejoice, Possums!

Our beloved Gigastar/Housewife will soon be on the road again, spreading her Australian words of hope, wisdom and joy.

Yes, her much anticipated show "Dame Edna - My First Last Tour", is soon to be gracing theatres across the United States and Canada. Isn't that gorgeous?

In her own words:

“In this show you will see me up close and personal, Possums, perhaps for the last time! Close enough to see my beauty and personal enough to feel my love, and even, in some cases, my reluctant disapproval. I’m sharing and caring with those who need it the most — YOU, my adoring audiences.”

Of course, we know that Dame Edna's theatrical appearances aren't so much shows, as they are miracles. Very often after her shows, ushers find zimmer frames and crutches from little non-entities who entered the theatre sick and emerged from her presence several hours later fully restored to health. Isn't that spooky?

Dame Nature has bestowed upon Dame Edna a host of rare gifts. And we, her loyal Possums, can only be eternally grateful that she is selfless enough to share them with us all!

You little darlings!

It's been a busy time here at "The Untamed Edna Experience" newsdesk, as Dame Edna has been a busy ole Gigastar lately, and we've lots of news to report to you!

She's been Stateside this past month, making a number of gorgeous appearances for charity and bringing her gladioli glamour to her American possums.

It's no surprise to see Dame Edna giving of herself in this way. The lives of her fans are transformed simply by her housewife/gigastar presence, and she is after all, a guru, a healer, and international confident to everyone from Nelson Mandela to the Dalai Lama.

Most recently, she hosted Macy's Passport event in San Francisco, a gala evening which raises money for HIV/AIDS programs across the country. She made headlines with the remarks she made to SF mayor Gavin Newsom (...well a mayor's hands should never smell of fish! How yucky! How uncalled-for!). The good people of Los Angeles also had a chance to swoon in the presence of our Australian heroine, as Dame Edna hosted the reopening of the Mark Taper Forum theatre on Saturday, 13th September.

Resplendent in fuschia sequins and feathers, Dame Edna welcomed showbiz luminaries such as Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne, William H Macy, Felicity Huffman, and Kirk Douglas (you'll find a picture here!), and kept the glittering audience in stitches throughout the evening!

We wonder what she really thought about the theatre though... In a television interview, she remarked that the new seats were "a squashed caterpillar green" and noting the new carpet, said "...they must have got that at a special price...".

I'm sure she meant it nicely...

You gorgeous little mites! You've been hungry for news of our favourite Australian Gigastar haven't you, and I've been away. The lives of non-entities like you the world over have been rather dull without my regular reports of Gigastar goings-on - I'm so sorry, my darlings!

But rejoice, because I'm back in the office of "The Untamed Edna Experience", beavering away and collecting news of Dame Edna from the four corners of the globe. Isn't that exciting?

Coming soon will be news of her upcoming tour and some fabulous recent public appearances, as well as some glittering details from the world of glamour and fashion! How gorgeous!!!

Hello Possums! Hello Darlings!

Following our Gigastar TV alert in the last post, Dame Edna's triumphant appearance on the season's final episode of Loose Women has been the talk of grateful fans all over the country!

As the show's producer apparently noted, the presence of Australia's first lady, without question, "raised the standard" of the show. Rather than dumbing down, she provided some much needed "Daming up!".

She shared her words of wisdom on family, fame and fortune, and also offered a tip to the 'celebrity' panel (which I'm sure she meant nicely):

"I'd like to think....that I'll always be quite humble. I don't take any of my success for granted. And if any of you ever become successful, please take my advice!"

Dame Edna Accepts Award for Humphries

Hello Possums!

This week we bring you news of the 2008 Helpmann Awards (Australia's equivalent to the Tony Awards).

A new production of Britains' "Billy Elliot" won several awards, and among the glitterati treading the red carpet were Cate Blanchett and Caroline O'Connor!

But most importantly, we're delighted to tell you that Barry Humphries was presented with the JC Williamson Award for outstanding contribution to the live performance industry. Isn't that gorgeous?

Apparently Barry was unable to attend, but Dame Edna accepted the award on his behalf via video link from London. While we're sure Barry was thrilled to be given this prestigious award, it seems that Dame Edna was less than impressed...

The Australian Stage website reports that during the acceptance, she remarked that Barry had "been living off her rare gifts for far too long now!"

But her sympathetic side later shone through, and she clearly felt sorry for poor Barry, stating:

"I have more hideous statuettes in my spare room than the Queen has polyester headscarves, but this one I will treasure certainly for the next few days and then I might lend it to Barry to adorn his naked mantelpiece." (ABC News)

No wonder Edna is known for her caring, sharing and giving! Such a generous heart!

A "Dame Edna" Day at the Races!

Hello, Possums!

News this week of a gorgeous Antipodean day out at the races! And a rare, much sought after opportunity to see our fabulous Gigastar impersonator Simon appear as Dame Edna, caring and sharing with her adoring public!

On 31st July, Sandown Park Racecourse is hosting a "Big Night Down Under", promising a celebration of Southern Hemisphere culture.

It's no surprise then that Simon's Dame Edna will be a part of the fun - we all know that Dame Edna represents the height of Australian culture (forgetting of course Cultural Attache Sir Les Patterson...and Dame Edna does her very best to forget him...).

The South African newspaper reports that the day promises something for everyone, including "biltong and barbies a-plenty, a chance to sample some find Antipodean wines, stubbies and pies, a bikini parade from top surfwear brand and the deep mystical tones of the didgeridoo!"

And best of all, you gorgeous little mites, you could have a Megastar meeting with Simon's Dame Edna, an event which almost certainly will be the highlight of the day, not to mention your entire lives! Call me old-fashioned, but it will!

This week, Possums, we have a mystery on our hands, Dame Edna style...

We've spied a gorgeous little Dame Edna video on YouTube, featuring our favourite Gigastar hosting a rather hilarious TV gameshow-type contest.

The show features James Dreyfus of "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" fame, as well as a selection of rather beefy participants (...perhaps they're associates of Edna's son Kenny and his 'friend' Clifford...?).

The game is called "Soap Your Studs!", and is absolutely hysterical! Here it is:

Here at "The Untamed Edna Experience", we pride ourselves on knowing just about everything there is to know about our celebrated Housewife/Gigastar, but we haven't seen this clip before, and we can't recall the show it might be taken from.

The show appears to be taped in the ITV studios on the Southbank of London, and based on Dame Edna's fabulous look, we would estimate that it was made within the last 15 years or so. The set is a rather marvelous hospital inspired set-up, and the "Kenny Everage original frock" features a glittering representation of Dame Edna's "vital organs"... how gorgeous!

You little darlings!

Isn't it spooky how the seasons speed by, Possums? It's hard to believe that the summer is upon us once again.

And as always, with the arrival of summer, comes the busiest season for weddings!

How gorgeous!

When planning for their big day, every bride-to-be hopes to achieve the kind of megastar magic and excitement that Dame Edna has known in her life.

But everyone doesn't have a New Zealand bridesmaid to help them with their preparations, and they worry that their wedding won't have that gigastar glamour they've been dreaming of.

After all, so many brides look at their guest list and think, who are all these non-entities? Others fear that the sheer boredom of the event will make their guests want to take back the gifts! And who could blame them, Possums?

So it comes as no surprise that couples all over the country beg Dame Edna (or rather, a reknowned gigastar impersonator) to attend their weddings, to care and share with their guests, and impart a few magic pearls of Australian wisdom as they set out in life together.

Luckily for them, our very own Dame Edna impersonator Simon Whitehouse is only too happy to come to the rescue! Every year he is invited to weddings up and down the country, adding a dash of gladioli glitz and glamour everywhere he goes.
