Dame Edna UK Tour News!

Rejoice, Possums! Rejoice!

The joyous news of a new Dame Edna UK tour has just been announced!

This wondrous revelation has exploded onto the web and across news outlets everywhere, and tickets are already going fast - of course!

For so long now, no-hopers and non-entities around the country have been desperate to witness the glory of a Dame Edna stage show.

(In fact, the term "show" is hopelessly inadequate. It would be far more accurate to refer to them as cultural histories-in-the-making and, some might even say, sessions of indescribable healing power!).

And now we can all go and witness the glittering greatness that is an International Gigastar. The very idea is almost too exciting for words!

Dame Edna will be joined by Sir Les Patterson in "The Last Night of the Poms", the first UK tour in 28 years! And joining these two luminaries will be Carl Davis CBE, providing a musical extravaganza that will include complete orchestras and choirs. How gorgeous!

This ground-breaking show was first performed in 1981 at the Royal Albert Hall, and Carl Davis tells us:

“This unique collaboration between myself and Barry Humphries was written as a parody on the Proms. Barry and I have waited 28 years to do this concert again, Dame Edna and Sir Les never disappoint.”

Dame Edna is, no doubt, disappointed to be saddled with Sir Les once again, but perhaps her long-term manager Barry Humphries is to blame. Edna doesn't approve of Sir Les, who is well know as Australia's "cultural" attache, and Chairman of the Australian Cheese Board. She feels, quite frankly, that he is just plain yucky, and has had to put up with him for decades now. Poor woman!

The tour, which runs from 11th Sept to 3rd Oct, will visit these lucky cities:
  • September 11 - SECC, Glasgow
  • September 12 - Usher Hall, Edinburgh
  • September 15 - Royal Albert Hall, London
  • September 16 - Evening News Arena, Manchester
  • September 18 - Brighton Centre, Brighton
  • September 22 - NIA, Birmingham
  • September 23 - Sheffield Arena, Sheffield
  • September 25 - International Arena, Cardiff
  • September 26 - International Centre, Bournemouth
  • September 29 - Odyssey Arena, Belfast
  • September 30 - O2, Dublin
  • October 2 - Echo Arena, Liverpool
  • October 3 - Trent FM Arena, Nottingham
Don't you think it's spooky, Possums? Just as the world needs some light and hope in these dire economic times, Dame Edna comes to the rescue (as only the world's most talented and influential woman could) with a new tour for 2009, bringing her hope, wisdom, and gorgeous gladioli to the masses!

It brings a tear to my eye, Possums! Call me old-fashioned, but it does!

Dame Edna on AVIVA Television Ads!

Hello Darlings! Hello Possums!

Well the world-wide love affair with gigastar Dame Edna Everage continues!

Her cutting-edge stage show "My First Last Tour" is still touring North America to a rapturous response, healing and uplifting little non-entities around the continent with her zesty zingers and megastar mirth.

And we all know her fun and fabulous MAC cosmetics line has recently been launched globally. In fact, she's just about to make an appearance in Australia to launch it there, adding some much needed glamour to their dull down-under lives. Lucky little things!

But we also have a gorgeous new television ad to enjoy too! It's just what we need to get us through the January blues, isn't it, Possums?

Insurance company AVIVA (who used to be Norwich Union) are using the profiles of a host of stunning stars who have also changed their names in earlier days - Ringo Starr, Bruce Willis, Alice Cooper, Elle Macpherson, and our very own Dame Edna, feature in the ad.

Of course, we all know that Dame Edna didn't change her name herself.... She had the title of "Dame" thrust upon her by her good friend Lillibet, who insisted that she should be known as Dame Edna because of all the good she has done for mankind (after all, even the Dalai Lama said he felt a better person after meeting her...).

So here it is, Possums. From Mrs. Norman Everage to our gorgeous Dame Edna. Enjoy!

Dame Edna - Megastar Musings

Hello, Possums!

With the launch of MAC's Dame Edna Collection, journalists have been clamouring to bask in Dame Edna's Gigastar glory, beseeching her to share the beauty tips of an international icon of style and good taste! Here then is a round-up of the fun and fabulous articles we've seen of late:

Dame Edna New Year News!

Gigastar Greetings for a Gorgeous New Year!

Despite all the holiday happenings, you've been missing us, haven't you, Possums?

It's been a busy ole' time here at The Untamed Edna Experience! In addition to entertaining adorable little non-entities throughout the Chrissie season, we've been moving (well, all the Kenny Everage originals needed a bigger closet...). But now we're all settled in at Edna Central, and ready to roll for a glittering gigastar 2009!

And what a year it's turning out to be already, darlings! We can hardly keep up with all the Dame Edna news in the world. She's truly in greater demand than ever, and obviously at the height of her powers, with all her juices flowing!!!

So watch out in the coming days and weeks as we highlight all of the Megastar-Mania!

The first thing we have to mention, of course, is the recently launched MAC Cosmetics Dame Edna line of wisteria-inspired make-up essentials! The web has been awash with blog entries from eternally grateful Possums around the world who can, at last, enjoy a little of the gladioli glamour for themselves.

The unveiling of this eagerly anticipated collection has been aided by an avalanche of exciting publicity!

MAC have a Facebook Page loaded with fabulous pics and interview snippits. Dame Edna tells us about her G-Spot exercises:

“I do my G-spot exercise every morning. I wake–up, I look in the mirror and I say those G-words: ‘Edna, I say, ‘You are gorgeous, you’re gorgeous, you’re GORGEOUS.’ And I go through the day absolutely gorgeous.”

Wise words indeed.

MAC and Dame Edna are also on YouTube, darlings!

Check back again soon for more news of our favourite Housewife/Megastar! It promises to be a deliciously delightful Dame Edna new year, Possums!

Dame Edna: MAC-tastic!

Hello Possums! Hello Darlings!

The excitement is mounting as we quickly approach the launch of the new Dame Edna line of make-up from those gorgeous glamour gurus at MAC! As we reported earlier, the lucky little mites of North America will be able to buy items from this trend-setting collection on 26th December, while UK shoppers will get their chance in the New Year.

Bloggers and make-up aficionados the world over are abuzz with the news! Here are some highlights from the blog of a web correspondent who hails Dame Edna as the Queen of Beauty:

While Edna is fond of all of the products, her favorite is KangaRouge, a blue-red lipstick. “A part of the kanga is this same color — it’s hopping over you and you look up and there it is,” she opined. “MAC has captured it. I only hope I don’t I meet an excitable male kanga.

*****

Target consumer? “The young, because the young adore me,” said Dame Edna. “The middle-aged are jealous of me.

*****

Promotion will take a cheeky spin: Simon Doonan has taped three interviews with the unrestrained Dame, which will be shown on maccosmetics.com, YouTube and Facebook at launch.

How thrilling! And, of course, the final word goes to the Australian Gigastar herself:

“I’m doing this out of love — I’m a giver,” said Dame Edna, the lavender-haired alter ego of Australian comedian Barry Humphries. “The audience’s applause was a little louder when I was wearing MAC on stage, so I was a convert. They didn’t have to coerce me.”

*****
What’s next for the Dame’s beauty line? She’s mulling over a line with a special added ingredient: “Mother spit — it has magical properties,” she said. “My mother is in a facility and she is now drooling in commercially viable quantities. This could be big.

You can always count on Dame Edna to have her finger on the pulse - well, at least on her mother's pulse anyway...

Dame Edna at your Wedding?

Glad tidings, Possums!

It is with a joyous heart that I announce a new video from our fabulous Dame Edna impersonator Simon Whitehouse on YouTube!

He's been a busy ole gigastar impersonator this summer, caring and sharing at weddings up and down the country, and bringing joy to crowds of non-entities everywhere. Call me old-fashioned, but their dull little lives will likely never be the same again!

So we thought it would be rather gorgeous to post a video of some of the highlights on YouTube. We aim to add more of these videos in the months to come, so stay tuned!

A Dame Edna Coincidence!

Hello darlings!

We've discovered a spoooooky 'ole coincidence in the world of TV talk shows, Possums!

We all know, of course, that Dame Edna's seminal and ground-breaking TV series, "The Dame Edna Experience" was a life changing phenomenon, not only for her guests, but for a host of fans around the world.

No-one can match the caring and sharing of a Gigastar, but many little non-entities seem to be on television trying these days, including a certain BBC comedian who, it seems, can't even pronounce his own name. Call me old-fashioned, Possums, but he can't.

Of course I'm talking about Jonathan Ross. And here is where our little coincidence begins....

On Friday night, Jonathan's guests included Grace Jones and Tony Curtis.

But like most things, we discover, that of course, Dame Edna did it first! That's right, in her second series in 1989, Dame Edna had both Grace Jones and Tony Curtis on the same episode as well! Isn't that spooky?

So here, for our Gigastar enjoyment, is a clip from Edna's interview with the ever outrageous Grace. Enjoy, Possums! Enjoy!

Dame Edna is the new MAC Style Icon!

You little darlings!

I know that you're rejoicing at this very moment, aren't you Possums?

You've been looking into the mirror lately, thinking "I wish I could look more like my favourite international Gigastar and fashion icon, Dame Edna Everage!", haven't you? But sadly, at the moment, you see instead a rather plain, uninteresting non-entity staring back at you in that reflection, rather like a New Zealand bridesmaid. How yucky! (I mean that nicely!)

But now you can leave that tired old look behind you, darlings, because very, very soon you'll be able to buy your very own make-up from The Dame Edna Collection at MAC!!!!

Yes, that's right! Dame Edna is MAC's latest Beauty Icon, and these glitteringly gorgeous makeup products will be released to a grateful (and for the moment, relatively unattractive) public on 26th December, allowing them to reach heights in glamour and beauty they had previously thought entirely unattainable!!!

MAC's previous Beauty Icons have included Liza Minnelli,
Raquel Welsh, Catherine Deneuve, and Diana Ross. But this collection will obviously eclipse all the others!

The Dame Edna Collection will include such fabulous items as:
  • Kanga-Rouge, Gladiola, and Coral Polyp lipsticks
  • Splendid and Possum lip-glosses
  • Royal Tour, Dame's Desire, and Wisteria eye shadow trios
  • What a Dame! and Spectacle powder compacts
  • Asiatique and Varicose nail lacquers

Not only that, but you can click here and visit Spektra Beauty News to see the new Gigastar beauty charts and how to achieve the look of an internationally acclaimed fashion guru.

So mark the date on your calendar, Possums, and ask everyone to give you MAC gift certificates for Chrissie, because you're going want to rush out to MAC at the crack of dawn on 26th of December!

Just think, you'll finally be able to look attractive for New Year's Eve! Maybe you can find a "Kenny Everage Original" frock to go with your new look...? It's a dream to live for, darlings!

Dame Edna on Tour!

Rejoice, Possums!

Our beloved Gigastar/Housewife will soon be on the road again, spreading her Australian words of hope, wisdom and joy.

Yes, her much anticipated show "Dame Edna - My First Last Tour", is soon to be gracing theatres across the United States and Canada. Isn't that gorgeous?

In her own words:

“In this show you will see me up close and personal, Possums, perhaps for the last time! Close enough to see my beauty and personal enough to feel my love, and even, in some cases, my reluctant disapproval. I’m sharing and caring with those who need it the most — YOU, my adoring audiences.”

Of course, we know that Dame Edna's theatrical appearances aren't so much shows, as they are miracles. Very often after her shows, ushers find zimmer frames and crutches from little non-entities who entered the theatre sick and emerged from her presence several hours later fully restored to health. Isn't that spooky?

Dame Nature has bestowed upon Dame Edna a host of rare gifts. And we, her loyal Possums, can only be eternally grateful that she is selfless enough to share them with us all!

So run, Possums, run! If you are in the cities she is visiting, you can't miss this chance to be in the presence of greatness. Get your tickets, whatever the cost. Your lives will never be the same again!

The currently scheduled dates include:

Nov. 7-9 at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX
Nov. 14-15 at River Rock Casino in Vancouver, Canada
Nov. 20, 2008-Jan. 4, 2009-Post Street Theatre in San Francisco, CA
March 10-29, 2009 at the Parker Playhouse in Ft. Lauderdale, FL
April 6-7 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, FL

Dame Edna Gives!

You little darlings!

It's been a busy time here at "The Untamed Edna Experience" newsdesk, as Dame Edna has been a busy ole Gigastar lately, and we've lots of news to report to you!

She's been Stateside this past month, making a number of gorgeous appearances for charity and bringing her gladioli glamour to her American possums.

It's no surprise to see Dame Edna giving of herself in this way. The lives of her fans are transformed simply by her housewife/gigastar presence, and she is after all, a guru, a healer, and international confident to everyone from Nelson Mandela to the Dalai Lama.

Most recently, she hosted Macy's Passport event in San Francisco, a gala evening which raises money for HIV/AIDS programs across the country. She made headlines with the remarks she made to SF mayor Gavin Newsom (...well a mayor's hands should never smell of fish! How yucky! How uncalled-for!). Check out the details (with some fabulous pictures) at the S.F Fashion Examiner. I wonder if her son Kenny designed the frock....?

The good people of Los Angeles also had a chance to swoon in the presence of our Australian heroine, as Dame Edna hosted the reopening of the Mark Taper Forum theatre on Saturday, 13th September.

Resplendent in fuschia sequins and feathers, Dame Edna welcomed showbiz luminaries such as Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne, William H Macy, Felicity Huffman, and Kirk Douglas (you'll find a picture here!)
, and kept the glittering audience in stitches throughout the evening!

We wonder what she really thought about the theatre though... In a television interview, she remarked that the new seats were "a squashed caterpillar green" and noting the new carpet, said "...they must have got that at a special price...".

I'm sure she meant it nicely...

Dame Edna on Jay Leno

Hello Possums!

You gorgeous little mites! You've been hungry for news of our favourite Australian Gigastar haven't you, and I've been away.
The lives of non-entities like you the world over have been rather dull without my regular reports of Gigastar goings-on - I'm so sorry, my darlings!

But rejoice, because I'm back in the office of "The Untamed Edna Experience", beavering away and collecting news of Dame Edna from the four corners of the globe. Isn't that exciting?

Coming soon will be news of her upcoming tour and some fabulous recent public appearances, as well as some glittering details from the world of glamour and fashion! How gorgeous!!!

But first, a little clip from Dame Edna's recent appearance on the Jay Leno show in Los Angeles. She shared the couch with Hugh Laurie, and was in fabulously hysterical form. Here she is, talking of gynecology, Sarah Palin, and celebrity rehab. Enjoy, Possums! Enjoy!

Dame Edna on Loose Women

Hello Possums! Hello Darlings!

Following our Gigastar TV alert in the last post, Dame Edna's triumphant appearance on the season's final episode of Loose Women has been the talk of grateful fans all over the country!

As the show's producer apparently noted, the presence of Australia's first lady, without question, "raised the standard" of the show. Rather than dumbing down, she provided some much needed "Daming up!".

She shared her words of wisdom on family, fame and fortune, and also offered a tip to the 'celebrity' panel (which I'm sure she meant nicely):

"I'd like to think....that I'll always be quite humble. I don't take any of my success for granted. And if any of you ever become successful, please take my advice!"

Classic Dame Edna! Fabulous!

Thanks to our friends at YouTube, we're thrilled to bring you a gorgeous glimpse of the glamour. Enjoy!

You little darlings!

Quicksticks! Check out the Loose Women "Coming Up" page, and cancel any other plans you might have for tomorrow at 12:30 pm. Nothing else could be as important as this!!!

I just hope you have room in your box (don't twist my words, you little minx...I mean set-top box of course) to record the show!

Dame Edna Accepts Award for Humphries

Hello Possums!

This week we bring you news of the 2008 Helpmann Awards (Australia's equivalent to the Tony Awards).

A new production of Britains' "Billy Elliot" won several awards, and
among the glitterati treading the red carpet were Cate Blanchett and Caroline O'Connor!

But most importantly, we're delighted to tell you that Barry Humphries was presented with the JC Williamson Award for outstanding contribution to the live performance industry. Isn't that gorgeous?

Apparently Barry was unable to attend, but Dame Edna accepted the award on his behalf via video link from London. While we're sure Barry was thrilled to be given this prestigious award, it seems that Dame Edna was less than impressed...

The Australian Stage website reports that during the acceptance, she remarked that Barry had "been living off her rare gifts for far too long now!"

But her sympathetic side later shone through, and she clearly felt sorry for poor Barry, stating:

"I have more hideous statuettes in my spare room than the Queen has polyester headscarves, but this one I will treasure certainly for the next few days and then I might lend it to Barry to adorn his naked mantelpiece." (ABC News)

No wonder Edna is known for her caring, sharing and giving! Such a generous heart!

A "Dame Edna" Day at the Races!

Hello, Possums!

News this week of a gorgeous Antipodean day out at the races! And a rare, much sought after opportunity to see our fabulous Gigastar impersonator Simon appear as Dame Edna, caring and sharing with her adoring public!

On 31st July, Sandown Park Racecourse is hosting a "Big Night Down Under", promising a celebration of Southern Hemisphere culture.

It's no surprise then that Simon's Dame Edna will be a part of the fun - we all know that Dame Edna represents the height of Australian culture (forgetting of course Cultural Attache Sir Les Patterson...and Dame Edna does her very best to forget him...).

The South African newspaper reports that the day promises something for everyone, including "biltong and barbies a-plenty, a chance to sample some find Antipodean wines, stubbies and pies, a bikini parade from top surfwear brand and the deep mystical tones of the didgeridoo!"

And best of all, you gorgeous little mites, you could have a Megastar meeting with Simon's Dame Edna, an event which almost certainly will be the highlight of the day, not to mention your entire lives! Call me old-fashioned, but it will!

So quicksticks, Possums, check out the Sandown website and make your plans to join us for one of the highlights of the Antipodean calendar!!!

A Dame Edna Mystery

You little darlings!

This week, Possums, we have a mystery on our hands, Dame Edna style...

We've spied a gorgeous little Dame Edna video on YouTube, featuring our favourite Gigastar hosting a rather hilarious TV gameshow-type contest.

The show features James Dreyfus of "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" fame, as well as a selection of rather beefy participants (...perhaps they're associates of Edna's son Kenny and his 'friend' Clifford...?).

The game is called "Soap Your Studs!", and is absolutely hysterical! Here it is:

Here at "The Untamed Edna Experience", we pride ourselves on knowing just about everything there is to know about our celebrated Housewife/Gigastar, but we haven't seen this clip before, and we can't recall the show it might be taken from.

Can you help, Possums?

The show appears to be taped in the ITV studios on the Southbank of London, and based on Dame Edna's fabulous look, we would estimate that it was made within the last 15 years or so. The set is a rather marvelous hospital inspired set-up, and the "Kenny Everage original frock" features a glittering representation of Dame Edna's "vital organs"... how gorgeous!

If you know the show from which this clip is taken, or any other details, please get in touch, Possums! We're dying to know!

Dame Edna and a bridesmaid...

You little darlings!

Isn't it spooky how the seasons speed by, Possums? It's hard to believe that the summer is upon us once again.

And as always, with the arrival of summer, comes the busiest season for weddings!

How gorgeous!

When planning for their big day, every bride-to-be hopes to achieve the kind of megastar magic and excitement that Dame Edna has known in her life.

But everyone doesn't have a New Zealand bridesmaid to help them with their preparations, and they worry that their wedding won't have that gigastar glamour they've been dreaming of.

After all, so many brides look at their guest list and think, who are all these non-entities? Others fear that the sheer boredom of the event will make their guests want to take back the gifts! And who could blame them, Possums?

So it comes as no surprise that couples all over the country beg Dame Edna (or rather, a reknowned gigastar impersonator) to attend their weddings, to care and share with their guests, and impart a few magic pearls of Australian wisdom as they set out in life together.

Luckily for them, our very own Dame Edna impersonator Simon Whitehouse is only too happy to come to the rescue! Every year he is invited to weddings up and down the country, adding a dash of gladioli glitz and glamour everywhere he goes.

And so, dear reader, if you're planning a wedding, or hoping to be invited to a celebration blessed with the presence of Edna, you might like a little look at some of these gorgeous photos. Simon's Dame Edna Everage has shared some hilarious moments with her grateful Possums at weddings all over the UK:

Dame Edna as Nancy?

You little Darlings!

Well, Possums, the search is over. We have our new Nancy.

The winner of BBC's "I'd Do Anything!" is that gorgeous little minx from Blackpool, Jodie! Regular readers of our "I'd Do Anything" blog entries might have guessed we were crossing our fingers (and gladis!) for her, and we're thrilled that she was victorious!

But wait, Possums....could this be the wrong result? Dame Edna recently revealed a startling secret during her triumphant appearance on The Graham Norton Show last week...

We'll let Edna explain in her own words:

"They've got the wrong idea about Nancy.

I believe in the past life thing. I've had had many past lives. I've been many famous, wonderful people..... I was once married to Charles Dickens!

So I know what he wanted Nancy to be like... He modeled her on me.

Nancy, in his mind, was a mature Australian woman. Graham, I could have been Nancy!"

So now we know the truth about Nancy. But never mind. Even though Cameron Mackintosh has decided not go with an Australian Gigastar in the role, we'll be thrilled to have Jodie taking centre stage. Congratulations, Possum!

And speaking of Dame Edna's visit with Graham on his gorgeous little show this week, wasn't it fantastic? In addition to spots with Ray Mears and Alanis Morissette, Dame Edna's glittering brand of caring and sharing made for a truly hilarious night.

One of our favourite lines came when Edna was discussing "I'd Do Anything!", and Barry Humphries' fellow judge, John Barrowman. Edna told us:

"I bumped into John Barrowman the other day. I said a few lovely things to him; paid him a few compliments.

But you know, there isn't any compliment you can pay to John... that he hasn't paid himself."

Classic Edna. Brilliant!

Here's a quick look at another fabulous segment of the show, courtesy of our friends at the BBC, in which Edna discusses Australia and her beloved Norm. Til next time, Possums, enjoy!

Dame Edna on The Graham Norton Show!

Hello Possums! Hello Darlings!

Isn't is exciting? International Phenomenon and Gigastar Dame Edna Everage will be featured on "The Graham Norton Show" tomorrow night (BBC Two, 9:45 pm)! Mark your schedules and don't miss it!

It seems likely that Dame Edna took pity on poor Graham, as he has had to work with Edna's 'manager' Barry Humprhies on "I'd Do Anything" these past weeks. Everyone knows that Edna doesn't think much of little Barry, and so probably agreed with a glad heart to save Graham's show this week in a typical act of selfless giving.

But wait! There's another exciting TV moment this week... Gorgeous Julie Walters is starring in Filth (the story of Mary Whitehouse) tonight on BBC Two. We mention this not only because we adore Julie, but of course because Dame Edna interviewed Mary Whitehouse on her history-making series The Dame Edna Experience.

Mary looked slightly bewildered throughout her time with Edna, poor little mite. Anyone could tell, looking at Mary's sensible wardrobe (well, at least they were washable fabrics!), that she had never come across anyone so glamorous as Gigastar Edna before. Sadly, Mary's life was probably all down hill after meeting Edna. It happens to so many...

It's a week of fabulous TV highlights, Possums! Rejoice!

Dame Edna with a Hint of Chrome?

You little darlings!

We all know that Dame Edna Everage is giver. She's a humanitarian. She's a healer. After all, theatre ushers the world over have found countless sticks and zimmer frames left behind after her legendary shows. She has a gift, it has to be said.

And so it is no surprise that the little non-entities in Cambridge were thrilled by the recent appearance of Edna at an open day at one of their hospitals!

Dame Edna graced the proceedings as the good people of Cambridge joined her in a look behind the scenes at the workings of the city's hospital facilities. There might have even been a little probing...

No doubt there were a few laughs along the way. As Edna always says, she stays healthy thanks to a large dose of Vitamin L - laughter. Yes, she's always been able to laugh at the misfortune of others, and it keeps her going every day!

So it's no great surprise that it was with a joyous heart that she bestowed a little of the Gigastar glamour on the folks of Cambridge. How thrilled those little institutionalised non-entities must have been to be blessed by a visit from Edna! The very memory of her caring and sharing will unquestionably have a miraculous healing effect in the days and months to come!!

We wonder if this hospital visit brought back any painful memories of her dearly departed Norm? Norm was, of course, the world's first internationally known prostate sufferer...and always had a hint of chrome about him. In tribute to his memory, Dame Edna is now Chairwoman of the Friends of the Prostate, and is always happy to give them a hand....to further their cause of course (don't twist my words!).

Dame Edna interviews Boris Johnson!

Hello Possums! Hello Darlings!

With news this week of the election of Boris Johnson as London Mayor, we thought it would be gorgeous to have a look at the interview Dame Edna did with little Boris on last year's "The Dame Edna Treatment".

Few people know that the Conservatives begged Dame Edna to be their London mayoral candidate, but she refused, saying "...ask Boris, he needs a proper job!"

We also hear that they beseeched her to offer Boris some political advice (no great surprise, as we all know that leaders around the world from Hilary Clinton to Nicolas Sarkozy phone Edna daily after a tragic gaffe or floundering error in the public eye...). Sadly for Boris, Dame Edna was (of course!) too busy, but she offered her dysfunctional daughter Valmai as his personal hairdresser instead. Her kindness and philanthropy knows no bounds. And it may just have been the advantage Boris needed to win!

Here then is a little clip of the highlights of Dame Edna's interview with Boris, or "little BJ", as she likes to call him. In it she tells viewers: "There's something endearing about this bumbling fellow...". What greater endorsement can there be?

They discuss Boris' description of Portsmouth as "..arguably too full of drugs, obesity, and under-achievement.." and his solution to overcrowding in the SE of England (a new tunnel to empty areas of France). Thanks to Edna's probing, we can easily see how the people of London would chose such a diplomatic and visionary man!

Well done, London!

Dame Edna News Abounds!

You little Darlings!

Aren't we all lucky Possums these days? The web is awash with all things Dame Edna and Barry Humphries, and we feel ourselves better people for it, don't we? I mean, apparently even Mother Theresa said that after she met Dame Edna she was much improved for the experience, and who can blame her?

Of course we have all been enjoying Barry on BBC One's "I'd Do Anything", but there's much, much more!

First, there's a fantastic interview with Barry on the Independent.ie site. Check it out, Possums! He talks about his legendary spat with Salma Hayek, his recent time in the hospital, his painting and latest project with Hewlett Packard, as well as future plans. How gorgeous!

There's also Dame Edna's recent appearance on CNN's "Quest" program, in which host Richard Quest speaks to the world's most famous "Dames" in the episode "Quest for an Honour".

And last but not least, in the UK's Independent, a fun article entitled "How We Met: Barry Humphries and Jeffrey Archer". Of course, little Jeffrey has been a regular guest on Dame Edna's many TV programs. So to end today's post, here's a glimpse of Jeffrey and a host of celebrities on "One More Audience with Dame Edna". Enjoy, Possums!

Sir Les Patterson Appears With a Nancy?

Hello, Possums!

Well, my little darlings, what did you think of the latest episode of I'd Do Anything on BBC One? For us, the highlight was undoubtedly the performance from the gorgeous Jodie.

She's definitely got Gigastar quality, that girl! And we know a Gigastar when we see one!

Barry Humphries was adorned in a fabulous Dame Edna-inspired wisteria coloured ensemble this week. But when Barry was providing his feedback to Jodie, it wasn't Edna but Sir Les Patterson who seemed to, ahem, rise to the occasion. Commenting on Jodie's performance, Barry said:

"I always thought of you as 'jolly Jodie' - like a barmaid - so (you'd) say 'Make mine a large one please, Jodie!"

He went on to say some very nice things to Jodie, Possums, but there was definitely a whiff of Sir Les about that comment, don't you think?

Thank Goodness for Barry, Possums!

Hello Possums!

You little darlings! Like you, we've been keeping up with the latest on BBC One's "I'd Do Anything!", if only to enjoy a little quality time with Dame Edna's 'manager', Barry Humphries.

And although Dame Edna rarely has a good word to say about him, we say "Thank Goodness for Barry!" While his fellow judges are taking the proceedings (not to mention themselves...) just a tad too seriously, blessedly, we have Barry to add a touch of levity to the scene! Most of his fabulous comments to the Nancy hopefuls fall into a wonderful Dame Edna-like "..and I mean that in a nice way..." category.

Here are some of our favourites from the most recent show:
  • (to Francesca) "...Nancy's a gin drinker...you look a bit 'dairy-fed' to me..."
  • "Jodie was very raunchy indeed...congratulations!"
  • (to Ashley) "...wonderful red hair...you're like an attractive Fergie..."
And then an hilarious comment which Dame Edna would surely have declared "a little un-called for" and perhaps a bit yucky:
  • (to Samantha) "You're like a kind of young - and more interesting - Catherine Zeta-Jones. I don't know if you share her taste for older men..."
Keep 'em coming, Barry! We'll be back next week to see you keep these gorgeous little non-entities laughing!

A Touch of Dame Edna in "I'd Do Anything!"

Hello Possums!

Well, we've all just watched the first live show of BBC One's "I'd Do Anything!" competition, and wasn't it gorgeous to see our Barry Humphries at the centre of things at last?!

He was given a truly glittering introduction, with a touch of Gigastar glamour in the form of our favourite Australian housewife and international phenomenon, Dame Edna Everage, at the beginning of his intro!

But did we also detect a little touch of Dame Edna in Barry's comments to the Nancy hopefuls? Was he channeling Australia's first lady of comedy during the broadcast? You be the judge:

After the first two girls, Jessie and Jodie, sang their songs, Barry's first comment was:

I would hate to be Fagin on stage with either of you girls....no one would look at me!

....was that Edna's tendency to think about others shining through? He went on, commenting to Jessie:

Jessie...you had vulnerability and a touch of the gutter snipe...and I mean that in the nicest possible way!

Following Niamh's performance, he noted:

There's something a little bit spooky about you...I can see you in a musical version of The Adams Family!

Perhaps it was Barry's choice of the trademark Edna colours in his wardrobe for the evening - pink and purple - that brought out his inner Housewife/Gigastar.
Definitely a touch of Australian caring and sharing there, Possums! And we wouldn't have it any other way!

Here's a slightly edited version of the first two girls with some of Barry's reactions at the end. Enjoy, Possums, and see you next week...

The World Needs More Dame Edna!

Hello, Possums!

You poor little darlings! You've been waiting for weeks now to see the wonderful Barry Humphries appear on the BBC One show "I'd Do Anything!", and up until now, we've only had a tantalising glimpse of our Barry. (Quite frankly, we suspect he had far more important things to do than sit through the auditions of thousands of non-entities....and I mean that nicely! I do!)

Thankfully this past Saturday he joined the show at last, and we even had a brief mention of our favourite housewife/gigastar as he was introduced! We'll look forward to much more of Dame Edna's 'manager' in the weeks to come...

And in the meantime, we all need a little more Dame Edna in our lives, so here's a fabulous look at Dame Edna's 2005 appearance at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. Enjoy, Possums! Enjoy!

Barry Humprhies - I'd Do Anything!

You little Darlings!

With only a day until the first episode of "I'd Do Anything" on BBC One tomorrow night, you must be counting the minutes until the fabulous Barry Humphries graces our TV screens once again! As we reported in an earlier post, Dame Edna's estranged 'manager' Barry is to be one of the judges of this Saturday night show, in search of new talent to star in the musical "Oliver" in the West End.

In addition to being a show business veteran, Barry comes to the panel with an expert eye, as he was a member of the original London cast of "Oliver". Isn't that spooky, Possums?

BBC Entertainment - Doing Anything for West End Fame

We hear that Dame Edna was originally begged to take the role of Nancy for this new production, but she insisted that her Gigastar calendar was far too busy, and that besides, she's obviously too young for the part!!!

We suspect that she lobbied to get Barry the job of judge on the show, saying, "...he needs the work...". I'm sure she meant it in a very kind, compassionate kind of way...

While we await Barry's return to Saturday night television, here's a gorgeous clip from another show that also celebrated complete non-entities:

Dame Edna Back in the Saddle

Hello Possums! Hello Darlings!

Following the exciting news that Barry Humphries will be a judge on the upcoming BBC One "I'd Do Anything" , various listings on the web indicate that plans are well underway for Housewife/Megastar Dame Edna to hit the road again on tour in the USA!

Earlier this year, the tour had to be postponed, but various US venues are now proudly announcing that their dull little schedules will be brightened up by a visit from Australia's gorgeous international phenomenon in 2009. The new show will be called "Dame Edna Live: My First Last Tour". Non-entities all over the States will be rejoicing in the hope that their rather colourless lives will be blessed with a touch of Gigastar glamour! Such lucky little darlings!

And what of Dame Edna's loyal Possums in the UK?

Well, desperados all over the country continue to get in touch with The Untamed Edna Experience, begging our Dame Edna impersonator Simon to come and recreate a little of the Megastar magic at their parties and celebrations.

And not too long ago, we promised pictures from the fabulous showcase night recently hosted by our good friends at Music Mosaic.

Simon's "Dame Edna" spent the evening caring and sharing with an adoring crowd of movers and shakers, and we're thrilled to bring you a few pics from a glittering evening of fun:

Dame Edna impersonator Simon Whitehouse sparkles in a gorgeous Kenny Everage original.

This little mite looks lovely....must be the lighting!

...and I mean that nicely! I do! I do!

Could that be David Bowie?
Call me old fashioned, Possums, but I think a man wearing make-up is a little bit yucky!
A little bit uncalled-for!

Barry Humphries to be Oliver! Judge

You little Darlings!

News this week that Dame Edna's "manager" Barry Humphries is returning to his UK roots this spring.

No, you little minx, I don't mean that Edna is lending him to the Queen to be a gardener at Buckingham Palace. I refer instead to his theatrical roots. Call me old fashioned, but I do!

Humphries first broke into the UK entertainment scene with a role in the original London cast of Oliver! in 1960. And now the BBC have just announced that Humphries will be a judge on the upcoming talent search program "I'd Do Anything" (...well from what Dame Edna has to say, Barry Humphries is a desperate sort...and she means that nicely!). He'll join fellow West End judges in search of the new stars to play the roles of Nancy and Oliver.

The BBC press release tells us:

His first break on the British stage was as creator of the role of undertaker Mr Sowerberry in the original 1960 London stage production. He recorded Sowerberry's feature number That's Your Funeral for the original London cast soundtrack album, and went on to reprise the role on Broadway in 1963.

In 1967 he starred as Fagin in the Piccadilly Theatre's revival, and subsequently reprised the role in Cameron Mackintosh's award-winning staging at the London Palladium.

The program is due to start next month on BBC One. Barry Humphries back in the UK! Don't miss it, Possums!

Farewell to Dame Edna's Bridesmaid Actress

Hello Possums!

Today we are sorry to report the passing of New Zealand's favourite bridesmaid - actress Emily Perry - who played Madge Allsopp, Dame Edna's constant companion and "hanger-on". Emily was always the perfect silent foil to Dame Edna's megastar acerbic tongue, and will live on in our hearts and minds for all time!

Happy Birthday, Barry Humphries!

Hello Possums! Hello Darlings!

Today we send our best birthday wishes to Dame Edna's "manager" Barry Humphries, who turns 74 years young this year.

"What is his secret to enduring youth?", I hear you query. Perhaps he shares Edna's beauty regime ...liberally applying the essence from a wombat's spleen to keep the skin radiant!

To learn more about the man behind the gigastar, we've assembled some online posts and a link to some wonderful biographies and books by this modern renaissance man. Enjoy:
